CONNECTING AEROSPACE INNOVATORS

The Aerospace Innovation Hub @TU Delft is a community of aerospace related startups, academics, students, corporates, and industry professionals.

Our mission is to accelerate content driven innovation in aerospace in a community by facilitating the early entrepreneurial journey, offering a vast aerospace network, and access to a rich aerospace talent pool. We are attaining our mission by offering our members an active community through which they can develop their ideas into viable and scalable products.

The community room and offices are situated on the top four floors of the Aerospace Engineering Faculty at Delft University of Technology. This location enables our community members to have a close connection with the faculty’s students, researchers, and facilities. On top of that, it is a vibrant environment full of likeminded people who elevate each other’s work.

The Aerospace Innovation Hub supports the faculty’s Start Up Voucher program by offering an entry into our community and coaching sessions with industry professionals. There is no better way to kick off your entrepreneurial journey in aerospace!

Our focus is supporting innovations in space technology, in solutions enabling the long term sustainability of aviation, and in novel drone technology. Our power is connecting innovators from in and outside of the aerospace industry and academia to collaborate on these innovations.

The people connecting aerospace innovators.

The Aerospace Innovation Hub is run by a board of directors and community managers. Three experienced industry professionals take a seat on the board: Femke Verdegaal, Victor Rijkaart and Jos van den Boom, with additional aid by Laura Gibson – ten Bloemendal. All four have strong connections and experience in academia and the aviation and space industries. The community managers are the linking pin between the community members, students, and the industry. Maximilian Meijkamp, Ruth Vraka and Grégoire Dastros-Pitei currently fulfill this role. The Start-up Voucher Program is coordinated by Olivier Heukelom and coached by Victor Rijkaart. Anne Wielens is our new event manager and Judith Laan is responsible for PR and communication. The offices and facilities are managed by Luc Schrover.

At Toray Advanced Composites, Marlie is the first female director of commercial aerospace programs, with business responsibility for Toray’s composites sales to the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers. In addition to her work, she is strongly committed to promoting young talent in aviation.

Adriaan Leyte is Vice President Strategic Business Continuity and is the executive sponsor for “Aerospace in Transition”. He leads the GKN Fokker campaign for the aerospace sector transformation to sustainable / zero emissions aviation in NL.
Jeroen Rotteveel
Jeroen RotteveelCEO and Co-founder of ISISpace
Jeroen is CEO and Co-founder of ISIS. Since 2006, he has grown ISIS into a company with 100+ full-time employees developing satellites in the range of 1 – 20 kilograms. Having started ISIS right after his Space Systems studies at TU Delft, Jeroen knows how to scale an idea into a mature business in the space industry.
Harm van Engelen
Harm van EngelenCEO KVE Composites Group & Daher Aerospace Netherlands
Harm van Engelen graduated from Aeronautical Engineering in 1995 from Delft University of Technology. He became one of the founding partners of KVE Composites Group in 1995. He owned 100% of KVE Composites group until Daher Aerospace S.A. acquired KVE in 2019. The group currently consists of a little more than 50 employees specializing in the design, manufacturing and repair of composite components in high performance markets.
Arjan Meijer
Arjan MeijerPresident & CEO at Embraer Commercial Aviation
Arjan Meijer is the President & CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. He studied Aeronautical Engineering at Delft University of Technology and acquired a Master of Business Administration Degree in International Master of Management from Purdue University in 2006. After careers at KPN Telecom and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, he joined Embraer in 2016. Through various roles, he now heads its Commercial Aviation side.
Rob Postma
Rob PostmaCEO at Airbus Defence & Space The Netherlands
Rob Postma is the CEO at Airbus Defence & Space the Netherlands. With an educational background from Wageningen University, he started his career in various roles working with geographical information systems. He joined Airbus in 2014 in the Defence and Space arm of the company. Next to his current role as CEO, he is in committees of TNO, Holland High Tech and Nederlands Lucht- en Ruimtevaartfonds.
Bastiaan Lagaune
Bastiaan LagauneHead of BD & Sales on Satellites, Services and AOCS at OHB Sweeden
Bastiaan Lagaune is a passionate space engineer with a strong business mindset always trying to get the best out of technology. Originally from the Netherlands where he obtained his master degree in space engineering from Delft University, he now leads the business development & sales on small satellites, AOCS and services at OHB Sweden in Stockholm. In this role Bastiaan is on top of the latest developments on the satellite business.
James Mac Gillavry
James Mac GillavryMaterial and IT Command at Ministry of Defense Netherlands
James Mac Gillavry is a specialist in the field of aviation airworthiness, certification, safety and risk management. He holds an MSc degree in Aerospace Engineering from TU Delft and has built a career in the Dutch Ministry of Defence, where he is currently acting as the Head of Rotary Wing Aircraft Division at the Material and IT Command. He is responsible for maintaining the military type certificate for the Netherlands CH-47F MYII CAAS Chinook, AH-64E Apache Guardian, NH-90 NFH and AS532U2 Cougar. He is also passionate about new innovations in the sector and has a vast experience with business operations as well as policy making and authority oversight.
David Manten
David MantenGeneral Manager of Engineered Thermoplastic Structures at Collins Aerospace
David Manten is an aerospace engineering graduate and the founder of Dutch Thermoplastic Components, a specialized manufacturer of aircraft parts made from thermoplastic composites. In 2021 DTC was acquired by Collins Aerospace where David now holds the position of general manager for thermoplastic composites.

Start-up Voucher

YOUR IDEA HAS THE POTENTIAL

Great ideas should not be kept on shelves but should be given the opportunity to turn into business. The Aerospace Faculty offers a Start-up Voucher & Coaching Program together with the Aerospace Innovation Hub. This voucher aims to guide, facilitate and accelerate the first entrepreneurial steps of an aerospace innovator. Each year this voucher is awarded to five ambitious student groups.
01. FUNDING.

A winner of the Startup Voucher is awarded €2500 for support of production of the first prototype and initial development.

02. COACHING.

A dedicated coach from the Aerospace Industry offers guidance and advice to the newly formed startups. Coaching sessions and workshops are part of the program to facilitate the best start.

03. COMMUNITY.

Every Startup Voucher winner joins the Aerospace Innovation Hub’s community. The community offers startups a broad and experienced network from the moment they become a member. Collaborating with the university, students, companies and other startups becomes a lot easier when you are in the loop!

European Connection

Moving towards AErospace

TU Delft cooperates with the Municipality of Delft and the Aerospace Innovation Hub in a European INTERREG Project called MAE (Moving towards AErospace).

The project improves the implementation of regional development policies in the field of Smarter Europe. Specifically policy instruments for new markets in aerospace, such as (autonomous) drones, Sustainable Aviation and Smart manufacturing of Composites.

The aim of the project is to work with established SME’s, start-ups, fieldlabs, education and research institutes, consolidating the region as an aerospace hotspot for new technologies. This test bed also looks for opportunities for SME’s that or not yet active in Aerospace fields.

The MAE Mapping Tool correlates directly to the Aerospace Delta strategy agenda.
